Aeskhrion Kallias
Born in Mygbuk, Qereqia, to Elladan-immigrant parents, at fourteen years old, Aeskhrion was apprenticed as a compositor in a printer's workshop. The workshop folded as a result of paper shortages during the Qereqian-Nisosian war, and he was conscripted into the army at the age of 17. Woulded at Mygbuk, Aeskhrion lost the use of his left arm and was medically discharged. During his recovery, he met his future wife, Mauja Onartok of Narhavn, through a penpal scheme for wounded soldiers - she had been shot and ultimately lost her right hand in the battle of Kerythraris. As Aeskhrion later wrote "I loved her through her writing, of course, but when I learned that she and I had mirror-wounds, I wanted to be nothing if I could not be her right hand. We were a complimentary pair: where I was wanting, she could provide, and vice-versa. When she passed beyond, I lost half of myself".
After recovering, Aeskhrion and Mauja left Qereqia for Anaqia, where they both worked for Anuniaq Publishing. After being married, they moved to the capital, Aruluk. It was while living in Aruluk, that Aeskhrion became enamoured with the theatre; after a few unsuccessful years as a jobbing actor, he was eventually able to make a modestly living as a playwright. Widowed in 5.903, at the age of 63, he moved to Ileqia to pursue writing full-time, producing seven novels to critical acclaim.
Aeskhrion died in his sleep aged 76, while visitng his children in Ikorsuk.
Aeskhrion's most famous novel, The Vastness of the Sea, was written while living on a boat on the Kivak bodden-chain, and is partially autobiographical. It is widely praised for its lyrical prose and vivid descriptions, though has been criticised for its overly-romanticised depiction of life on the water. Nonetheless, Vastness is responsible for the increased interest in visiting the county and is available in almost every bookshop in the region.
