Light goat
These large, shaggy grey goats live in the upper peaks of the Daïdänt mountains, using the elevation and sheer cliffs to evade predators such as cave bears, mountain leopards, and wolves. They appear to be an unremarkable breed of goat-antelopes, and are easily mistaken for other species in the region.
The species' primary distinguishing feature is their shadow, which can detatch from the body and roam up to a kilometre, operating independently and even being able to graze or make physical contact with Reality. When shadowless, the goat is able to move through common shadows as if they were thin places and emerge elsewhere.
Additional Information
Domestication
Cannot be domesticated.
Light goats are generally skittish, but rams can be aggressive during the breeding season. Attempts to capture wild light goats are generally met with failure, and they are too skittish to attract towards settlements. They only descend from the high altitudes during partuicularly bad winters and are especially wary at this time.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Light goats are difficult to catch due to the goats' shadow-walking ability, meaning that even a fatal wound doesn't guarantee a successful hunt.
Even after a successful kill, the rewards are unsatisfying. The meat dries and travels well, weighing far less than any equivalent meat, but doesn't sates the hunger of those who consume it. It is eaten when available, but is not recommended as a sustinence of last resort - although it provides energy, its lack of effect on hunger destroys morale.
Light goats have hair up to 7cm thick and is used for making winter coats and boots. This feature is not unique to the light goat, and the species is not sought out for their hide.
Light goat hair, horn, and bones have a number of arcane uses that make them especially sought-after by the renegades and bandits of the Daïdänt. The rams' horns are associated with virility, a broth made of light goat bones is alleged to confer the goat's trademark elusiveness, and a certain charm woven from the hair can make the bearer surefooted enough to climb sheer cliffs, and the carved horn and bone, made into a necklace, can protect the wearer against altitude sickness.
