Mining: borax, silica, clay
Owned and operated by the Prosperity Lake Borax company, the mine has been operating for 39 years and now provides half the world's borates. Prosperity Lake Borax was an early adopter of the domesticated $GIANT_SPECIES_NAME, which has significantly increased production. Significant silica and clay deposits are also mined, but the prodction of both is outstripped by borax extraction, with two thirds of Inlindorf's mining population being employed by Prosperity Lake Borax.Glassworks
Taking advantage of the cheap and abundant supplies borax and silica, several competing glassworks sprang up in Pelkplagï following its expansion in 5.567, including the Ash̀taïtze glassworks. In the years since the city's founding, several artisinal glassworks have set up in a region of town now known as the Glittering District.Ash̀taïtze glass
Known for its soft white glow under direct light, Ash̀taïtze glass is highly prized and the manufacturing process a closely-guarded secret. All Ash̀taïtze glass is produced in Pelkplagï.Ceramics
Pelkplagï's ceramics factories produce a wide variety of household objects but are now also known for the development of the ceramic and enamel Ðotahbal armour.Guilds and Factions
The Dobernauhe Earthworkers' Union remain a near-universal presence, despite claims by the Glassworkers of Kirh that glass manufacture is a separate industry should not fall under the purview of the Earthworkers' union.
The DEU counterargument is that glassworking is an offshoot of vitreous glazeing of pottery and, in any case, their superior influence in the city better serves their members. Relations betwen the two guilds are strained, but unscrupulous factory owners have found themselve having to fend off an alliance of both guilds during industrial disputes. The working conditions in Pelkplagï glassworks are some of the best in the world, adhering to the more exacting of the two standards in any given case.
