Black Thorn Tower
The black thorn tower is a ruined building recently discovered inside a crater in the Great Desert by an expedition from the Royal Academy of the Sun. The explorers who discovered it were not equipped for a longer stay and did not have any archaeologists or mages with them to approach safely, let alone study it. According to their report, the building "suggests the atmosphere of a first era artefact".
Architecture
The building is divided into two parts. The base is a cube with a side of about 2 metres and seems in good condition. It is flat grey, except for some red grains. It does not present a door, but there is one huge black as high as the whole cube wall on one side that might work as access of some kind. Above the cube, half-collapsed triangular pitch black walls converge to the top. The upper portion seems to be about 20 metres tall.
The whole building is shiny and emanates heat, which is something to expect from a black building in the middle of a desert. However, the explorers swear to feel it even from a great distance.
They observed that the red lines sometimes appear to glow brighter. Whether it was the effect of sunlight or ancient magic, they could not tell.
Hypothesis
Even though the tower is not much tall, it stands in the middle of the desert and is visible from decently afar. Some of the more suspicious researchers question how it had been possible to miss it up to that expedition. Although in a remote location close to the Nāqqiād's territory, previous expeditions should have been able to locate it. They advanced the hypothesis that the tower might be of abyssal origin and proposed to move with extreme caution, maybe even asking the Cosmos Wayfarers for help.
An argument corroborating such thesis is that whatever magic was cast on the tower, it's still working, as the red lines show, which is rare for first-era artefacts.
