Bastards Bay
Bastards Bay was founded by Grisnal the Bastard, the illegitimate son of a Miriadorian King and a bar wench. Grisnal declared the settlement independent from Miriador and dedicated the port town to the god Uller. He further declared himself Thane of the Bay, and refused to bend the knee to his father, King Arval the Loud. After an escalation of tensions, the king allowed Grisnal to keep the Bay and the surrounding lands, as long as he swore fealty to paid a percentage of all trade taxes to the crown, and contributed to kingdom's defense with ships and men. Since then, Bastards Bay has had a Thane, not a Jarl, and enjoys a larger degree of independence than other town wtihin Miriador.
The town is a bustling, if not overly prosperous seaport. Pirates can come and go from here with less scrutiny than would be paid in the larger ports of Vilion and Tyrlon. There is a smuggling business that rivals that of Seeker’s Market, but the Thane demands his taxes and holds the black market economy in check. The town is also home to a fleet of Tako hunters, who capture and kill the giant intelligent octopi in order to harvest their parts and ink. The skin is used in many spellbook bindings and in magical camoflague coverings, and the potent blue ink is used for ordinary dyes as well as magical ink.
