Battlegap

The Battlegap is a low swampy area that extends for miles in between Thistle Lake and the White River at the base of the Great Westies. It is interspersed with trees and shrubs and small ponds of standing water, and makes up the western half of the Elvish Frontier. It is the site of an ancient battle between the elves of the then newly established kingdom of Sylarbor and an army of drow who descended from the northern reaches of the Wyvernslair Mountains. The drow army contained a great host of other monsters, including orcs, trolls, dark dwarves, and ogres, all bent to the will of the drow priestesses that led the army, intent on the destruction of their lighter skinned cousins. In the battle that ensued, Sylarbor was victorious. As the legend is told, the elven deity Corellon himself turned the night into day and the approaching drow army withered in the light of a streaking sun that appeared overhead in the night sky. The elves, emboldened by the divine assistance overcame the larger army, destroying the drow casters and setting the monsters to run for the mountains and the hills to the east, where they would be hunted mercilessly for the next several decades. The drow priestesses and magic-users were so intent on the destruction of the fairer elves that even in their own defeat they managed to infect the surrounding lands with so much evil magic that the land has been poisoned ever since. Corpses, laying in the ground since the days of the drow invasion animate and awaken spontaneously and regularly to this very day. So regularly and common are these occurrences that the elvish king has established as special group of priests to find and destroy the undead who emerge from the festering swamplands. These are the Fey Wardens of Correllon who headquarter just to the east in the Bakketarn Tower.
