Cantavaria

Cantavaria is a gnomish nation within the Worlds's Roof Mountains and on the border of Mariarion.  It is famous for beig the home of the world's greatest illusionists, and is known as the "Invisible Kingdom".  The name is a bit of a misnomer in that the nation is more of an oligarchy, run by a council of elders. The nation is, however, very much invisible to the eyes of the outside world.  Powerful and permanent illusion spells have been cast over the entire mountain valley containing the gnomish population so that it appears as an untouched wilderness to anyone outside the of the spell effect. The gnomes of Cantavaria maintain a healthy relationship with the elves of Mariarion, supplying the elves with magical items enchanted by the gnomish casters, as well as trinkets, art, jewlery, and small mechanical devices created in their underground warrens.  For their part, the elves send the gnomes large stores of grain, fish, and fabrics, as well as defend the borders of Cantavaria as if they were part of the elvish kingdom.
