Tankvara
Tankvara is an important stop on the Dwarven Road between Norgaard and the Dwarvish kingdom of Skuffhimmel. Situated on the south bank of the Cinnamon River, it caters to the dwarven caravans bringing minerals, ores, and crafts to the human kingdom of Norgaard and beyond. It has also has a thriving livestock industry, supplying the dwarves with beef and mutton, as well as wild game taken from the hills to the south.
The residents of Tankvara understand that they live on the edge of the civilized world and that any foray north of the river could result in unwelcome encounters with orcs, trolls, or worse. Like the rest of their fellow Norgaardsmen, they are a hardy folk, enduring life in the dangerous north with a sense of pride, bordering on arrogance. Southerners know nothing of what it takes to live in such an environment, where the weather or a marauding band of darkhold could threaten your life and livelihood at any moment.
Tankvara serves as an "end of the line" for most barges coming up river as the Cinnamon becomes extremely difficult to navigate upstream from the town with shallow runs, boulder-lined rapids. Caravans coming from Canter's Claim and Kallevalla will often use Tankvara as an embarkation point for barges going down river. From there, it is an easy two-day trip to Norgaard Keep, with an overnight stop at Riverbend.
Tankvara also serves as a jumping off point for many troll hunting parties who venture into the wilderness north of the Cinnamon. On of the most commonly hunted species is troll, whose blodd can be used in the manufacture of healing potions, but there are other, and worse, monsters who lurk in the Troll Haunts. Hunters have returned with exotic monster pelts, teeth, and tusks, and some travel as far as the northern range of the Wyvernslair Mountains. Some of these parties have returned with stories of orc and ogre settlements hidden in the deep valleys of the Wyvernslair.
Tankvara is ruled by Jarl Erik Crowfoot, known as Erik the Arrow for his skill with a bow. Erik owes fealty to the Kriggsherre of Norgaard Keep and taxes the dwarvish and mannish caravans that pass through his jarldom.
