The Coringian Empire

The largest nation in Nyverden, it is run by the Coringian Emperor from his seat in Coringhall on the shores of Lake Maksverd. Founded by Coring the Kingslayer, the empire has survived for 1000 years.  Although there are often contentious relationships with it neighbors, the empire is heavily engaged in global trade, competing with the Leauge of Maritime Nations for the goods of the southern lands.   Following an attempted overthrow of the emperor in the early 900's, led by a group powerful wizards, the empire has outlawed all arcane spell-casting and has agressively pursued any who are accused of its use.  The only spell casters in the empire who can openly use magic are the priests of the Norse gods, most of whom are in the service of the empire and have pledged fealty to the emperor and his vassals.
