The Norse Pantheon
The Norse gods first planted their followers in the north of Ankomst around the Fodsel Sea. And while there is some overlap with some elves worshiping Frey, and a handful of dwarves worshiping Thor, the majority of the followers of the Norse pantheon were men. The Norse people quickly divided themselves into petty kingdoms that centered on warlords who carved out territories for themselves, spreading east and north to the coast. Some peoples made their way across the Disparate Sea to the open lands of the Hesterherre and became the nomadic tribes of horse peoples that live there today. One kingdom grew in size and power under the great King Coring Tolbrok, absorbing its neighbors until it eventually took over the whole of northeastern Ankomst. This empire spread through military prowess and demands of tribute until it encompassed the whole of northern Ankomst, east of the Dividing Mountains. The only Norse left outside of the empire on the continent are the independent city-states dotting the western coast of northern Ankomst. These cities are largely maritime in culture and economy and have banded together in a loose league in an effort to avoid being pressed into the ever-expanding Coringian Empire. The League of Maritime Cities extends from the northern peaks of the Dividing Range south to the Bay of Glatvand, which is the northern border of the Western Elves. The Norse have within the last several hundred years begun to cross the Disparate Sea. The Conringian Empire has established mining colonies in the mountains west of the Hesterherre. Large groups of Norse, unhappy with the politics of the Empire and seeking a new life, or seeking power of their own, left the shores of Akomst and set out across the Inner Sea to found new kingdoms in northwestern Apenrike. These newcomers found already established elven and dwarven kingdoms and so claimed the rest of the relatively open land. As they pushed farther north and east, they encountered peoples of the Darkhold: orcs, goblins, ogres, and others. These newly founded countries on the continent of Apenrike are collectively known as the Northern Kingdoms, the greatest of which is Miriador.
