Lakeshore

Deep in the Thetford Forest of Hundred House, Lakeshore is a sizable center for tourism and trade in luxury and magic goods. It is also the capital of the municipality of Lakeland, of which Lady Caterina Amblestump is Reeve. Cherry Merrybottom knows the family, and particularly her sister-in-law Eloise, who is of the view that Caterina has gotten a bit too big of a head over some local government power, and that her husband, Mr. Potric Amblestump, is a liability. Their daughter Crystal, reputedly even more affable than her father and more ambitious than her mother, recently debuted.   The Ladies' Hiking Club convinced Therriau Blackstone to trade them his simple star necklaces in exchange for the ivory carving they lifted from Matthew Legge in Bridlip, saying that the fine carving of a woman pushing a girl on a swing would be more appropriate and more luxurious a gift than his necklace -- which they clandestinely needed in order to succeed in one of the quests proposed by the Seelie Court just outside of Peachton. They have not heard any word as to whether he has been successful and have never met Lady Caterina.

Unique Characteristics

Something isn't quite right about Lakeshore, though no one that lives there would ever agree with that sentiment.

Charm Stone

There is an igneous boulder on the west side of town inscribed with runes and emanating an indisputable magic resonance. If Tarts McGillicuddy is to be believed, it is an ancient artifact that casts a low-level charm spell on the town permanently, easing worries and mitigating cares. Everyone living in Lakeshore loves it there and can't imagine living anywhere else. Everyone that leaves Lakeshore longs to return. The Ladies' Hiking Club left town just as they started noticing that their concerns about the town and its structure oddly did not seem to matter to them very much.

Real Estate Confusion

For some reason, there a rich-people homes in Lakeshore and all kinds of apartments, tent cities and repurposed Yishanim ruins for the lower class; but most of the middle-class homes in town are sitting empty. The Club noticed that peculiarity but did not have time to follow up on it.

Vendors and Contacts

The following vendors have been identified by the party:
  • Boutiqua Obscura: One of the nicest, most well-apportioned, and critically cheapest magic shops any of the ladies had ever seen. Tarts McGillicuddy runs a tight little ship there. In the course of making his sales, a talisman against scrying snapped shut in Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters's hand, indicating both that someone had been watching the group and that she -- having broken it -- had bought it.
  • FISH STOR: Ulf and his two Orcish lieutenants run a fish store in town. Between the town charm keeping everyone copacetic and Ulf's insistence that FISH STOR IS BEST, there has not been much debate on the topic.
  • Stag's Rest Inn: Home of the town's ongoing charity darts tournament, Fiona Tunnelly's warm little auburn community hub is one of the more charming rural pubs in Hundred House. Pervinca Pott, town carpenter, was the sitting champion before being dethroned by Fanny Glitters in an open exhibition.
  • Lakefront Livery: Lakeshore features stables and a custom livery shop run by Merrimas Oldbuck.

Bits and Pieces

  • Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters propositioned a ravishing young gentleman in town -- clearly a man of the world -- but he misunderstood her to have been proposing some kind of pimping arrangement, which he abruptly declined. Both he and Tarts McGillicuddy told the Club that if they had questions about the Overmeres, Ulf was the man to approach.
  • This is where the Club left Mama and Seamus.
  • Horsley should be back here, reunited with his owner Jocelyn by now.
  • The group camped outside of town to minimize the effects of the Charm Stone, and were awakened in the night by an eavesdropping spell that alerted them to the fact that Tarts McGillicuddy was being interrogated by mages of the Tower of Anthur-Ro. In coded language he implored them to escape around the west side of the city, away from the main road. They did so.
