Sylvanas dreams of form and substance, of the courses of waters and the contours of the land, the fish of the sea and the birds in the air; and from the aether of his reverie, called the Green Dream, the world of Oa takes shape.
A history of Oa from the Dawn of the Green Dream to the present.
The period of time from creation to the Fall of the Elves.
Sylvanas dreams of form and substance, of the courses of waters and the contours of the land, the fish of the sea and the birds in the air; and from the aether of his reverie, called the Green Dream, the world of Oa takes shape.
The period between the beginning of documented history and the Salvation.
Following similar discoveries by the elder races, the Yishanim develop a written language. At this point they control a slim majority of the cleared arable land on Oa.
Protracted hostilities between the Old Ones and the Wood Elves in the area that is now Correhome prompts an extensive push to industrialization and deforestation by the former. Particularly given Sylvan tactics, modern historians question whether "war" is the proper term for this escalation of hostilities into large-scale but infrequent armed conflict.
Sylvanas fractures the crust of the world, allowing the creative force of the Green Dream to flow through the cracks. As intended, the release of this potent energy reawakens the Tarrasque, which begins its implacable march of terror, setting about its God's work of violently rending apart all civilized life from the planet. It continues unabated in its work for eleven years, bearing with it in its unpredictable path an unprecedented and utterly incalculable degree of mortal suffering.
The Trilune Fellowship and their allies around the world succeed in exsanguinating Naraoth, weakening her sufficiently for them to seal the six fissures in the world through which the Green Dream was escaping, trapping her corporal form in pieces on Oa. That sealing also starved the Tarrasque of the vital energy it needed to carry out the Omnicide, and within a week it had fallen into torpor. The anniversary of this date from this point forward is the only universally celebrated festival in the world.
According to Bishop Olwyn's records, the Lighthouse - the Yishamin biosphere now located under the town of Bridlip is populated and sealed, with an aim at protecting one of the six Lanterns holding Naraoch in place from any future interference.
While the date of birth for the skeletal twins living in the ruins beneath Bridlip is certain (ascertained by the note left for them by the cook), the year is Vega Spritzer 's best guess, based on context clues from architecture and handwriting.
The period between the fall of the Yishanim and the present.
The Yishanim vanish. The elder races are terrified and make preparations for war or extinction. Their terror gives way to alarm, concern and ultimately a savage curiosity that remains to this day.
Archbishop Liepzig addressed the Lieutenants of Hell on behalf of Errol Tuck, the famed alchemist who invented a potion of immortality. He sought immunity for his crimes against the natural order by promising to destroy any trace of his work, and in exchange to enter one of the lower orders of Paradise as would otherwise have been his due through his good works. The verdict of the Council was never reported.
Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters is born in an unknown location at an imprecise date under a different name.
The Double Pudding, the original name of which is lost to bureaucracy, is founded in Cricklewood, Hundred House. Within weeks its colloquial name, based on its very popular Opening Month special has replaced it and a new shingle has been painted and raised.
A young Bella Garland travels to the Wandering City to further refine her skills as a Bard, taking up residence in the ethnically Shorefolk neighbourhood of Crackclaw on the port fin.
In what most outside observers have come to conclude were a series of plausibly concealed political assassinations, three prominent royals in the Corran line of succession met with accidents in 848WA. Emperor Optimus Overmere had a stroke at sea in mid-summer of 848 while en route back to Maulden after a diplomatic mission to improve relations with the recently vanquished Marsher Lords. Sons Kern and Sylvio Overmere were commanding troops in Portavia at the time of his passing, and his heir, Ericus, was ruling the capital in his absence and mentoring his younger brother Numerius who was likely to be created Count of Evenshire in due course. Within a few days of Optimus' passing, Ericus (now Emperor without his knowledge) fell from a rope bridge in a suburb of Correhal and plunged into the sea. His body was recovered the following day, leaving Kern the Emperor by right. Numerius, disconsolate with grief at the loss of his beloved brother, is said to have dressed in commoners' clothes to go on a bender. It is reported that he picked a fight in a local tavern and was killed; however several observers have noted that Numerius hated the common people, never drank, and was six feet and four inches of raw explosive muscle with six years in the XIV Legion, leaving it as the literally decorated primus of a veteran unit. His claim to fame was his skill at arms in the most dangerous position in the Legion. In whispers, some dispute the claim that Numerius could have gotten into a fight with a willing adversary at all, let alone doing so without racking up a body count. When word of Ericus' death reached the Portavian front, the XIV and XVIII legions hailed Kern as Emperor, and he returned the salute. The historical record seems to omit that Sylvio, then already captain of the XIV would undoubtedly have been the one to have initiated the salute, likely with a speech. It is unfortunate, given the gravity of the moment and Sylvio's reputation as an orator, that no such record exists.
Sylvio Overmere, Count of Novon and Prince of the Corran Imperial Family, arrives at the Grand Mausoleum on short notice, petitioning Bishop Vega Spritzer to verify that his eldest brother, Ericus Overmere, was murdered by his next-eldest, the current Emperor Kern Overmere. Rather than waiting for a senior official or rousing the Pontifex, the ambitious Bishop Spritzer conducted this ceremony herself. Her intercession was abruptly terminated as she made historic progress through to the chamber of what appeared to be Lord Arcus, god and progenitor of the Shinigami: the potentates and ruling class of Hell.
By order of her brother the Emperor, Thalia Overmere was banished for sedition on this date, not quite two years after the deaths of her father and full brothers Ericus and Numerius, and apparently within a few days of the death of her husband Marcellus.
After years of sabre-rattling and border squabbles, the Corran Empire under newly elevated Emperor Kern Overmere launched a full-scale attack on Tenthun, with the central thrust of the sneak attack being an attempted blockade of the nation's west coast. With both Halfling nations having recently agreed to neutrality in the event of war, a successful blockade could have been disastrous for the devout southern nation. The Corrans are not a naturally seafaring people, however. Their navy was massive but largely staffed with raw recruits drummed up in the Emperor's rush to war, and their ships were built precisely to poor plans. The Tenth fleet under Commodore Mott successfully routed the Armada, leaving very little materiel afloat and intact. The event is considered a shameful boondoggle that forced the young Emperor away from his dreams of immediate glory and into a reluctant peace treaty with a rival power.
The 32 years' war between Tenthun and the Corran Empire is brought to an end. The border is slightly redrawn, but little else changes. The war had been mostly on paper for the previous decade, with the exception of the Corran Empire's last-ditch effort to break through the stalemate by launching the Corran Armada.
