Reghyxesh
A "young" runt of a Beholder bearing multiple signs of having been violently rejected by its parent, Reghyxesh (it/its) escaped the Underdark and found a new home in the Circle of Anthur-Ro. Though it became a powerful mage in its own right, Reghyxesh was regarded with suspicion and fear due to the evil reputation of Beholders generally. Acknowledging its antisocial imperatives, Reghyxesh studied and embraced a passive philosophy that allowed it to cohabitate with its peers without a second significant incident.
Despite its skill as a mage, its natural inclination to intellectual pattern-finding and unmitigated greed made Reghyxesh an ideal candidate to man the purchasing counter at The Arcanaeum and to buy and sell intelligence on the side. While it had aspirations of becoming an archmage one day, the Beholder has to admit it has settled into its dream job.
Reghyxesh's facts can be trusted, and its word is good -- if one is sure to pay for both. Its embrace of neutral philosophy renders the concept of loyalty and uncompensated kindness revolting to it. In its own words, "Reghyxesh provides services for cash." That may be as close to a distillation of its philosophy as there is.
Tidbits at Initial Encounter
Reghyxesh was paid for the following tidbits of information upon encountering Beulah for the first time in 30 years:- Decima Overmere's men are professional, battle-hardened men accustomed to death and disdainful of money. They sold six of the magical binding wraps The Silent Man used in combat against Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters to Reghyxesh, and it managed to use a charm spell to extract further information from one of those men. It learned that the Silent Men sailed here from Cinnédil, across the ocean.
- Decima's men wore the livery of Thalia Overmere's men, suggesting either that the two are working together or that Decima has infiltrated Thalia's guard.
- Torwall Ignus was last seen by Reghyxesh on the 2nd of Spring, 859WA and since that time found "a mate" and sold the Mercy in 863WA, about two and a half years before the siege of Bridlip.
- Three people have asked about either Beulah Garland or Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters since their arrival: Thalia Overmere's men, General Kuzoh's men, and a third, undisclosed person.
- The small change Fanny stole from the Veno manor was the charity alms-box funds from the Cathedral of Tyr, though Reghyxesh also noted that typically Adalberto Veno pockets it anyway.
- Bishop Veno believes that he was robbed by a vampire lord in retaliation for his investigations into the dark. Reghyxesh finds the presence of vampires in the Metro to be economically impossible unless the disappearances are being conducted by an entire coterie of vampires with no concept of how to go about unnoticed. It finds the situation much more aligned with a profile of murders for pleasure or sacrifice.
Insurrection at Anthur-Ro
To the surprise of those in the group that knew it from ages past, Reghyxesh was named by Tara Thessaly and Torwall Ignus as a central figure in a resistance cell within Anthur-Ro. The cell is aware of a "traitor" being held in the cells beneath the famed mage tower who is set for execution on the evening after Stille'en, 866WA. He is condemned on convictions for aiding and abetting "the enemy", and for some generic charge of treason for compromising the Circle's ability to supervise the phylactery of Naraoch (i.e., Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters or her children). Execution is an extraordinarily rare event in Anthur-Ro, and the cell is concerned by the fact that this sentence is being carried out before the "traitor" has even had the opportunity to be questioned or to plead his case to the Council. While Reghyxesh may or may not be the leader of the cell, it is unquestionably central to its operational organization, being the point-entity for both the "inside team" of saboteurs working to minimize security measures and the "outside team" of infiltrators tasked with accessing Anthur-Ro. The plan for The Assault on Anthur-Ro is that the outside team will move up from the sewers through Anthur-Ro's legacy of forgotten catacombs and antiquated security measures, into the cellblock, interrogate the "traitor", access the library if necessary(?) with the cog they obtained, and vamoose -- ideally but not necessarily with the traitor in tow. Before sharing this information with Beulah and Chantrelle, Reghyxesh required an oath of silence about anything that might be seen in the sewers. The Ladies' Hiking Club now understands that this was because Reghyxesh has been storing heaps of magical items, humanoid carrion and even a secret stash of gold in a sewer chamber beneath Anthur-Ro; and that it has a vertical shaft providing easy access to an unguarded part of the mage tower. It appears Reghyxesh considers the risk of an omnicide real enough that it is jeopardizing its own illicit access to the tower in service of the greater good.
