Masked of Dantea

A religion of the Dayneans.

Religion as a government:

Masked of Dantea not only acts as a religion, but also takes the place of the government, gaining full control over it´s people, while prohibiting other religions. Masked of Dantea officials of the rank of Priestess and higher can vote on, and make laws that might be introduced into the system. While this takes away the freedom to vote for regular people, they can live with that those decisions will be done by people chosen by Dantea.

Center of the religion:

The religion revolves around the goddess Dantea for all the gifts she gave to her people and around appreciating the beauty of women and art.

Religious structures:

Religious structures include places of worship or gathering, housing for the religion´s officials, non goverment structures owned by the religion, etc.

Officials of the religion:

Officials of the religion run everything religion related, enforce the religion's laws and act as moral and religious guides.

• They are: Child of Dantea, The pearl mask, Cleric, Templar, Priestess, High templar, High priestess, Daughter of Dantea
  
  

Enemies of Dantea:

The enemy of Dantea is her brother Gaurus the demon lord, for what he has done to her and his evils in general.

Laws:

Laws are enforced and offenders judged by the religion´s officials of the rank of Priestess or higher. Only 3 witnesses are needed to find someone guilty. Children are exempt from most if not all the rules, but not those with a mental illness. (more about punishments for breaking the law here:Punishments)

Demon lord´s orange:

Use of orange in clothing, jewelry, paintings, etc. is prohibited, as it´s seen as supporting Gaurus the demon lord, unless it´s use has an acceptable reason, such as portraying Gaurus for visual representation. When seen with these items, they will be destroyed or confiscated. Ownership of anything orange is not banned, as long as they are not displayed/worn.

• This law is ignored in special or survival situations and such.

• Multiple offenses will lead to public shaming and being marked with the Mark of Gaurus on the neck.
  
  

Demon lord´s servant:

Worship/glorification of Gaurus the demon lord and use/distribution of Machines of Gaurus is strictly banned.

• Punishment for this is being exiled and disowned by the offender´s family, with one day to prepare an may never visit another settlement again.

• The offender can repent by actively worshiping Dantea for the rest of his life, or removing the machine. The offender will be marked with the Mark of Gaurus on the neck. The offender can repent only once.
  
  

With an exile:

Willingly meeting with, or helping an exile without a good reason is not allowed.

• The offender will be exiled and may never visit another settlement again.
  
  

Ambrosia:

Only the religion´s officials of the rank of Cleric and up can eat Ambrosia. For anyone else, eating the fruit is prohibited, as the fruit of the goddess can be eaten only by those worthy enough.

• Offenders will be starved for a week. Or even longer on multiple offenses.
  
  

Marriage:

A marriage must be between a man and a woman, only the woman needing to agree to it. An official of the religion of the rank of Cleric or higher must mend the marriage for it to be valid.

• Marriage outside of these rules will be punished by a fine, from 10 to 25 arreum plates.
  
  

Womanly greatness:

No man is allowed to put himself above any woman, because women are above men.

• The offender will be punished by serving the woman he put himself above, or another woman if not possible, from a week up to a month. The woman he will serve should not harm him, tho the punishment for it is only a small fee, up to 1 arreum plate.
• This law is ignored in ranks in things like the military. Most of the time.
  
  

Cross dressing:

Men are not allowed to wear women´s clothes, as that would be like saying they are equal, even tho women are above men.

• The offender will be punished by serving a woman, for up to a week. The woman he will serve should not harm him, tho the punishment for it is only a small fee, up to 1 arreum plate.
  
  

Prostitution:

Only women can do prostitution, as long as they are allowed to by an official of the religion of the rank of Priestess or higher and aren't officials of the religion themselves.

• Male prostitution is punishable by 10 hits with a whip
• Unallowed female prostitution is punishable by a fine, up to 5 arreum plates.
  
  

Name of the goddess:

Saying name of the goddess Dantea, outside of religious events and things like explaining something, is strictly prohibited.

• The offender´s tongue will be cut out, because those who use Dantea's name so loosely are not worthy of the gift of language.
• Only the religion´s officials of the rank of Daughter of Dantea are allowed to say Dantea's name anytime.
  
  

Masks:

Wearing a mask at all times is require of everyone, because no one deserves to see other´s beauty.

• The offender will be fined up to 10 arreum plates. On multiple offenses, they will be required to wear a broken mask.

• This law is ignored in the case of combat, special situations, sleep, bath, sex, etc.
  
  

Priestess relationship:

Men are prohibited from having a romantic or sexual relationship with the religion´s officials of the rank of Priestess or higher.

• The offender will have his genitals cut off and never be allowed to go near the woman. If he willingly and knowingly breaks the distancing, he will be hit with a whip up to 10 times.
• This law is the main reason while so many women of the rank of Priestess and above are lesbians.
  
  

Disrespecting the religion:

Intentionally disrespecting the religion or Dantea herself in any way is one of the worse crimes.

• The offender will be hit with a whip. The number of hits and the whip are decided by the religion´s official of the Priestess rank of higher.
  
  

Rape:

Rape is seen as horrible, banned and looked down upon. Age doesn't really matter, as children can consent within the views of the religion. Tho sexual acts with them are heavily looked own upon.

• A male offender will have his genitals cut off and never be allowed to go near the woman. If he willingly and knowingly breaks the distancing, he will be hit with a whip up to 10 times.
• A female offender will be hit with a whip up to 10 times or fined up to 20 arreum plates.
  
  

Theft:

Theft, as in most places, is illegal. Thieves are seen as lowest of lows, for taking things from others who worked hard to obtain them.

• A punishment for theft depends on what was stole, so punishment ranges from ripping a nail out up to cutting the whole arm off.
• The offender will be marked with a mark of a thief on their neck. It´s size depends on the crime´s severity.
  
  

Murder:

Murder of enemies is fine, but murder of travelers or your own people is seen as one of the worst crimes. In cases of self defense, at least 3 witnesses are needed to prove it was so.

• Punishment ranges from getting whipped 100 times up to getting boiled alive.
• Murder of a woman, especially a high ranking official of the religion leads to a worse punishment.
  
  

Events:

Mass:

On Wednesdays, at 10:30, everyone gathers in places of worship for an hour of prayers and reading of religious texts. It is time of thanking Dantea for all her gifts.

The crystal night:

2-5 times a year, during night, the Sea crystals glow strong enough to light up the whole sea. Everyone gathers on boats and ships to pray, celebrate and observe the Sea crystals.

• Because Sea crystals barely glow days before, it is easy to predict when the event happens.

• The boats and ships are filled with food, drinks and warm blankets to celebrate the night properly.
  
  

New year:

New year is celebrated days before the second half of the wet Season of the year, marking the start of a new year. Since it´s the biggest celebration of the year, on and between buildings are hanged cloths of colors such as: purple, silver, white, gold, etc., lanterns are put up everywhere and officials of the religion wear purple capes. At settlement squares are displayed statues and paintings, next to tables filled with food.

• Eating ambrosia and saying name of the goddess is permitted that day, day before and day after.
  
  

Day of the black sun:

Solar eclipse is believed to be caused by Gaurus the demon lord, trying to shield the sun to cause eternal darkness. Dantea tries to fight her brother, but it´s difficult. During this time, everyone drops to their knees and prays to Dantea, hoping she defeats him.

• Because of how rarely solar eclipse occur, most people just pray out of panic, thinking the end of the world is here. But some temples make sure to talk about it regularly.
