Knowledge Skills
During character creation and leveling up, it may not be necessary to take proficiency in any "knowledge" Skills. These will be counted separately to take after Pathfinder knowledge skills. This includes any Intelligence based Skills with the exception of Investigation. All characters can select a number of knowledge skills equal to their intelligence modifier. For example, a wizard with an 18 intelligence may take Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Dungeoneering), Knowledge (Local), and Knowledge (Planes). Normal character creation and leveling proficiencies CAN be used for knowledge skills like normal, but it is recommended to save these for other skills like acrobatics or perception.
Available knowledge skills are as follows:
- Arcana (ancient mysteries, magic traditions, arcane symbols, constructs, dragons, magical beasts). Although robots are constructs, Knowledge (arcana) cannot be used to identify robots or their abilities and weaknesses.
- Dungeoneering (aberrations, caverns, oozes, spelunking)
- Engineering (buildings, aqueducts, bridges, fortifications)
- Geography (lands, terrain, climate, people Used for astronomy.
- History (wars, colonies, migrations, founding of cities)
- Local (legends, personalities, inhabitants, laws, customs, traditions, humanoids)
- Nature (animals, fey, monstrous humanoids, plants, seasons and cycles, weather, vermin)
- Nobility (lineages, heraldry, personalities, royalty)
- Planes (the Inner Planes, the Outer Planes, the Astral Plane, the Ethereal Plane, outsiders, planar magic)
- Religion (gods and goddesses, mythic history, ecclesiastic tradition, holy symbols, undead)
Inspiration
AKA Heroic Inspiration
While the effect of Inspiration remains the same, multiple inspirations can be kept at once in the form of Bottle Caps. Only one instance of inspiration can be used per d20 test. The owner of a bottle cap can share it with a player that does not have one if they so choose. In addition to this change, Humans built using the 2024 PHB no longer gain inspiration every day.
