Eion

The Sun Father

Overview

Eion is the sovereign deity of the sun, ruling over the fiery and life-giving force that illuminates the world of Odran. His presence dominates the day, providing warmth, clarity, and growth. His dominion is divided into three distinct aspects—Dawn, Noon, and Dusk—each governing different phases of his power and influence. He is revered as a god of strength, wisdom, and order, guiding mortals and spirits alike with the radiant light of his divine authority.

Physical Appearance

In his preferred form, Eion appears as a sun-bronzed human male in his twenties. Draped in a flowing tunic of golden cloth, his noble profile is accentuated by a strong chin and neatly trimmed beard. The broad chest of a perfectly fit athlete speaks to his divine strength, and his glossy black hair frames his face. A golden wreath crowns his head, symbolizing his eternal connection to the sun. Eion's presence is regal and commanding, reflecting his mastery over the celestial body he personifies.

Aspects of Eion

Each of Eion’s three aspects governs distinct domains and influences within the mortal realm:
Dawn
The aspect of beginnings and renewal. Dawn represents the first light of day, marking the potential for new growth and the pursuit of knowledge. He is often worshiped by scholars, adventurers, and those seeking enlightenment.
Domains: Life, Knowledge, Arcana

Noon
The zenith of Eion’s power, Noon represents strength, clarity, and the forge of creation. Warriors, craftsmen, and rulers pray to Noon for victory in battle and mastery in their craft.
Domains: War, Forge, Light

Dusk
The final stage of the day, where Eion’s light wanes but does not disappear entirely. Dusk governs the balance between order and decline, offering wisdom for transitions and endings. This aspect is revered by judges, diplomats, and those in positions of authority.
Domains: Order, Knowledge, Light

Worship and Influence

Temples dedicated to Eion are majestic and grand, often built in open-air courtyards where sunlight can pour in unobstructed. His clergy are known for their disciplined lives and dedication to promoting order, strength, and clarity. Festivals celebrating the phases of the sun—especially the solstices and equinoxes—are major events across Odran, where communities gather to honor the god’s blessings.
Holy Text
The primary holy scripture of Eion’s faith is known as The Codex of Radiance. This ancient tome is written in golden ink, said to glow faintly in sunlight. It is divided into three major parts, each reflecting one of Eion’s aspects: Dawn, Noon, and Dusk. The Dawn Scrolls focus on creation, enlightenment, and the pursuit of knowledge; the Noon Manifesto details the tenets of strength, order, and leadership; while the Dusk Parables offer wisdom on endings, transitions, and justice. Every temple of Eion houses a copy of the Codex, with priests expected to memorize large portions of it during their training.
Tenets of the Faith
Followers of Eion are bound by several key tenets, which guide their actions and lives:
Seek Enlightenment: Just as the sun brings light to the world, so too must Eion’s followers bring knowledge and wisdom to others. Ignorance is to be dispelled, and curiosity encouraged.

Uphold Strength and Order: Eion teaches that strength, both physical and mental, must be honed and used to maintain order. His followers are expected to be disciplined and stand firm against chaos and disorder.

Lead with Honor: Eion’s devotees are often called to positions of leadership. They are instructed to rule or guide others with fairness, justice, and compassion, always considering the well-being of those under their care.

Embrace the Cycle of the Day: Followers are taught to respect the cycles of life—beginnings, peaks, and endings. Every stage has its purpose, and understanding the natural flow of time is key to harmony.

Symbols
Eion’s most prominent symbol is a golden sun with three rays, each representing his aspects: Dawn, Noon, and Dusk. His followers often wear pendants or engrave his symbol into their shields and armor to invoke his protection and strength. A wreath of laurel, symbolizing victory and order, is also closely associated with Eion, particularly in temples and during ceremonies of rulership and authority.
Artifacts
One of the most revered artifacts of Eion is the Sceptre of Solar Might, a divine weapon said to channel the full power of the sun at its zenith. It is a gilded staff topped with a blazing orb of pure light, capable of casting radiant energy and igniting enemies with searing heat. Another notable relic is the Bracers of the Dawn, worn by great warriors who have received Eion’s blessing. These bracers are said to protect the wearer from both darkness and corruption, emanating a constant glow.
Sacred Relics
The Sunstone of Eternity is the holiest relic of Eion’s faith, believed to contain a fragment of the sun itself. This crystalline orb radiates warmth and light even in the darkest depths, and it is housed in his grandest temple. Another relic is the Golden Forge Hammer, which was said to have been used by Eion’s first priests to forge enchanted weapons and tools during the height of Odran’s early civilizations. It is believed that any weapon forged with the hammer will strike true and never dull.

Eion and Zuvi: The Dance of Eclipse

In the early eons of creation, Eion and Zuvi would gaze upon each other across the sky, drawing close each month but never touching. For millennia, their celestial dance brought them near yet always kept them apart. Over time, this unspoken connection blossomed into a deep love, and eventually, they chose to unite in marriage.   When Eion and Zuvi wed, their joy was so great that they danced together for two hundred years, a celebration that echoed through the heavens. During this time, the moon completely eclipsed the sun, casting Odran into a profound darkness. Monsters thrived in the absence of the sun’s light, growing stronger and more ferocious, while the humanoid races were forced to retreat within the protective walls of their cities. With the land plunged into shadow, crops withered, and the people relied on magically conjured food to survive the long eclipse.   After their celestial honeymoon, Eion and Zuvi looked down upon Odran and saw the chaos and destruction their dance had brought upon the world. Heartbroken by the suffering of their creations, they realized that their love, while beautiful, had caused unintended harm. To prevent such devastation from happening again, the two gods vowed to dance only once every hundred years, creating a solar eclipse for a single day.   On this rare and sacred day, the people of Odran prepare themselves, gathering within the safety of walled cities to hold grand feasts and vibrant festivals. These celebrations honor the love between Eion and Zuvi, while also acknowledging the delicate balance between light and darkness that governs their world.

As the first light breaks the horizon, so too must you rise each day in purpose. Let your steps be steady, your heart unyielding, for the world turns upon the axis of strength and resolve. In the face of darkness, be a beacon. In the presence of doubt, stand as firm as the mountains. For just as the sun casts out the shadows, so must you cast out fear and ignorance from the hearts of the weak.
