The Hellmaw Eruption
General Summary
As if angered by the denizens themselves, Os Ignis roared with its decannary eruptions, only this time would be much... much different. Tremors surged through the ground, felt as far as Kent and Eras, the Mouth of Fire burst with the largest gout of flame and rock Odysseia has ever seen... The tunnels below began to crumble and fill with lava and flame. Drow and Dwarf fled for their lives, grabbing what little they could carry while the cities strained to hold the ceiling above them. Less than a third of their populations escaped the destruction, and they beheld the devastation for themselves. The cloud of smoke and dust Os Ignis threw to the sky lasted for weeks... months. Throwing the surrounding mountains into its shadow. The remnants of this explosion can still be seen to this day, with flows of basalt across the mouth of Os Ignis and its surrounding peaks... and vast basins and sheets of black obsidian stretching across the base of the volcano. The shaken survivors retreated from the eruptions, down to the very fringe of the mountain range. Though it pained them both to leave their cities behind... it is unknown how much of their civilization survived the destruction. To this day, the old tunnels that remain have not been explored, as the depths are considered unstable and dangerous. The hopeful believe that part of their cities are still standing beneath the mountain... while the rest believe it to be a tomb of rock, their former homes buried under the crumbled stone. The truth? Who can say... only a true expedition down beneath the volcano could truly paint the picture of what remained. Of course the citizens of Oathstone have no plans for such a thing anytime soon...
