Once a dragon selects its Rider from among the Squires, the chosen individual is elevated to this honorable rank. Dragon Riders are the backbone of the guild and play a pivotal role in maintaining harmony between humans and dragons.   Upon becoming a Dragon Rider, the individual enters into a lifelong partnership with their dragon companion. This bond is deep and profound, based on mutual trust, respect, and understanding. Together, they embark on adventures, face challenges, and work as a team to protect their community and uphold the values of the Skysworn Guild.   Dragon Riders take on a variety of tasks and responsibilities. They actively participate in training new Wyrmlings and Squires, passing on their knowledge and skills to the next generation of dragon riders. Additionally, they engage in missions and quests, using their unique bond with their dragon to carry out tasks that others might find impossible.   The relationship between a Dragon Rider and their dragon is marked by loyalty, courage, and unwavering commitment. The journey towards becoming a Dragon Rider begins as a Wyrmling, where aspiring dragon riders are taught about dragon care, feeding, biology, and combat. Physical fitness and unwavering determination are essential qualities to succeed during this stage.   Upon successfully completing their Wyrmling training, candidates are selected by Dragon Riders to become their Squires. During this phase, Squires assist with the care of dragon equipment and gradually earn the privilege to help care for their mentor's dragon. Combat training continues to sharpen their skills, preparing them for the responsibilities that lie ahead.   The critical moment in a Squire's journey is when a dragon chooses them as its Rider. This moment marks their promotion to the rank of Dragon Rider. However, the bond between Rider and Dragon is not forged solely on the basis of combat skills or physical prowess. Requirements

  • Selection as a Squire: After completing their Wyrmling training, candidates are selected by experienced Dragon Riders to become their Squires. This is an important step where they assist in caring for dragon equipment and develop further combat skills under the guidance of their mentors.
  • Dragon's Choice: The pivotal moment in a Squire's journey is when a dragon chooses them as its Rider. This bond between Rider and dragon is not solely based on combat prowess; it is formed on mutual trust, respect, and understanding between the two.

Appointment

To become a Dragon Rider within the Skysworn Guild, an aspiring individual starts as a Wyrmling. They undergo rigorous training in various aspects, such as dragon care, feeding, biology, combat, and other essential skills. Physical fitness and unwavering determination are required to succeed in this stage. Once their initial training is complete, Wyrmlings are selected by existing Dragon Riders to become their Squires.   As Squire, they assist with the care of dragon equipment and eventually earn the privilege to help care for their mentor's dragon. Combat training continues during this stage, and the Squire continues to learn and grow under the guidance of their Dragon Rider sponsor. In rare cases, a Squire may be chosen by a Scaled Master or even the Grandmaster, which is considered a great honor.   The final step in becoming a Dragon Rider is when a dragon chooses its Rider from among the Squires. This bonding ceremony, known as the hatching ceremony, is a grand affair for the Skysworn Guild. The newly hatched dragons feel a connection to those in attendance and choose their partners from among the Squires. Not all Squires are chosen, as it is ultimately the decision of the dragon which individual they believe they are best suited to bond with.   Once a dragon has chosen its Rider, the Squire is immediately promoted to the rank of Dragon Rider. At this stage, they officially become a part of the guild and form a strong bond with their dragon companion. The Dragon Riders make up the majority of the guild and play a vital role in the Skysworn's mission to protect and serve.

They vary depending on the colour and lineage of the Dragon.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Indeed, the rank of Dragon Rider is a lifelong commitment and honor within the Skysworn Guild. However, there are specific circumstances under which a Dragon Rider may no longer hold their title. The most unfortunate and solemn grounds for dismissal from this esteemed rank are the death of their dragon companion. When a dragon passes away, their Rider is transitioned to the rank of Groundlain, cared for by the guild for the remainder of their days.   Similarly, the retirement of both the Rider and their dragon can also lead to a transition to the rank of Scaled Elder. Scaled Elders are revered retired Riders and dragons who continue to contribute to the guild in various capacities. They possess a wealth of knowledge and experience, and their wisdom is highly valued by those still actively serving in the Skysworn.   Other than these extraordinary circumstances, Dragon Riders remain in their positions for life, serving as valiant protectors and defenders of their realms.
