Mordenkainen (MOR-den-kay-nen)
Mordenkainen, also known as Lord Mage of Greyhawk, is a legendary mage of untold power in the Flanaess. A master of the arcane arts, he retired from decades of adventuring and founded the Circle of Eight. Although he's close to seventy, his appearance suggests a much younger middle-aged man. His piercing brown eyes provide a sense of his genius intellect tinged with madness. He keeps a neatly trimmed Van Dyke beard and shaves his head bald.

Real World History:
After DMing the first group in 1972, Gary Gygax asked a fellow player to take the reins so Gary could be a player. In 1973, he rolled up Mordenkainen which is a portmanteau of the Finnish mythical heros of Mordecai and Lemminkainen. This character was to become Gary's most famous and favorite character until 1985 when Gary was forced out of TSR.
