Golems, Itharan

Overview

Despite advancements in aetheromechanical engineering and the strange sapience-granting abilities of uncontrolled aether, there is still no (ethical) process for creating a fully autonomous construct. Aether arrays built throughout a construct of metal or stone can allow it to move, see, and follow simple if-then commands, and these golems can fill in some gaps in logic themselves. This is only enough to create guards or simple laborers, and the cost and complexity of creating and programming these golems restricts their use to larger cities. Anywhere employing golems must house either the elite or thieves.
Older civilizations in Ithara, less concerned with morality, imbued certain elite golems with the spirits of servants and warriors. These ancient golems can still be found guarding the ruins of kingdoms whose names have been forgotten, some driven mad by their endless servitude.
