The lush landscape of Ogygia cradles a civilization built on conflict.
As vibrant as Ogygia's wilderness is, so too has it always seemed to favor the monstrosities that lurk within. Wyverns and chimeras prowl the cliffs; hydras slither in the swamps; sirens and cetea lurk beneath the waves of the island-dotted seas. The wilderness itself fights, at times: an unwanted interloper may find themselves wandering a labyrinth of trees for eternity, and fishing ships are consumed as the ocean rises up and closes around them. It is not a place for the faint of heart, as if humans were never welcome there.
Survival for Ogygians has meant embracing bloodshed and steel, both against the supernatural powers that rule the wilds and against their own kin. Ogygia has raised gallant heroes, legendary mercenaries, and powerful warrior-kings determined to defend their vassals against beast and blade. But so too has it spawned traitors: roaming vagabonds, bloodthirsty tyrants, and knights consumed by the madness of sea and bramble. Some have tried to unify feudal Ogygia through diplomacy or violence, but their efforts have always fallen short. A ruler's throne inevitably crumbles to rebellion or nature's patient growth.
Some wonder if the wilderness itself spurs the Ogygians to war, as if the earth itself were trying to purge mankind and grant beasts their rightful place. Others care only to revel in the endless tension, or profit from it. No matter which, their motto is the same:
