Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1 piercing damage.   Powder Burst. The olitiau dusts a 20-foot sphere around itself with clinging, glowing powder. Any creature in the area that is not an olitiau must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, the creature is outlined in a blue-green hue and sheds dim light in a 10-foot radius. Any attack roll against an affected creature has advantage if the attacker can see it, the affected creature can’t benefit from being invisible, and the affected creature has disadvantage on all Stealth checks. The powder lasts for one hour, or it can be washed off as an action with a gallon of water.

Despite their small size and docile nature, these pterosaurs can be a threat to any aggressor if provoked. Characterized by the bioluminescent patterns along their wings and short crests, olitiau are content to sleep all day in caves and canyon overhangs and only come out at night to feed on insects, rodents, and fish. While their eyesight is keen in the dark, their primary tactic is to spread scale particles over large areas, which activate only when the object they land on moves significantly. The activated scales create an aura of dim light outlining the affected creature for up to an hour, allowing the olitiau to dust wide areas and pinpoint any prey that attempts to escape in foliage or rocky crevices.
If a large flock of olitiau are attacked, they will often retaliate by dusting the attacker with a large cloud of these particles. While the olitiau flee, the attacker becomes a glowing target for any other nocturnal predators. This hunting strategy has backfired for olitiau flocks who wander into lau hunting grounds, as the olitiau frequently mistake the lau’s lures for their own prey or other olitiau.
