Catfolk

Basic Information

Anatomy

Catfolk are very human-like in appearance, yet have their bodies mostly covered in fur very similarly to a cat. They have sharper teeth than humans due to their nature as hunters and carnivores, along with claws. They end up usually slimmer than most of the other humanoid species, this is due to their limbs and bones being lighter to provide for more agility, as a Catfolk can easily climb up walls and jump much further than a human.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Catfolk social structure depends on which ones you encounter, the Karican ones are more noble and family driven, coalescing in different "clans", where the Maarifan ones are nomadic and tribal, yet still incredibly family and group driven, rarely straying from the same pack they grew up with.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Catfolk are primarily found in two places in the world. Karica, where they are furrier to compensate for the slightly colder climate, and Maarifa, where their fur is a lot thinner and is more akin to Jaguar fur.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Catfolk have a level of perception above normal humans, being able to see further and in the dark better. This paired with their superior hearing and tremorsense, makes it very difficult to get the jump on a Catfolk.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Their naming traditions vary, if the Catfolk House is in a mixed society, one with humans or other species, they can very easily adopt human naming traditions as well, but usually Catfolk will name their kin a title as opposed to a traditional name, an example of this being the known Catfolk Cleric, 'Sunshine After Dark', named this way by his family due to him being a blessing in their life, as well as their religion regarding Phezion, the god of the sun.

Major Organizations

The only notable, huge organization of almost entirely Catfolk is House Tanho on Karica, a large noble house of prideful mercenaries and wanderers. House Tanho is not all blood related and not entirely Catfolk, they regularly adopt and take in "strays" to mentor and teach. House Tanho has dealings with a lot of nobility across the world as well, namely Karican and Tuyan royalty due to House Tanho's experts in weapon manufactury for personal commissions, as well as their clothmakers.

History

Catfolk history extends about as far as Human history, though it varies to what Catfolk historians regard as heroes of their species. Catfolk history boils down to travel, sight-seeing and then settling down in their respective places. It is said that older Catfolk once traveled the entire world down to the last cave.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Catfolk being wanderers and mercenaries they have relations with species all over the world. They mainly coincide in cities and towns alongside Karican Humans and Bugbear. While also in Karica the more higher class noble houses are known to coincide with Tengu and the various winged species, sharing an enjoyment of writing and scribing.
