Personal history

Rhapsody was the sole product of her mother's, Diadora Morningstar, Sorcery. Diadora desired an heir but found no suitor suitable to her taste, they each had too much of that pesky "free will". And so, she resolved to take part of herself and breathe life into it, birthing her daughter, whom she named Rhapsody. 
Rhapsody grew up within the Empire as an enigma, not because of the circumstances of her birth, but because of her personality, she was the complete opposite of her mother despite essentially being a clone. The Empress was cold, cruel, and unfeeling, she tolerated no mistakes and never forgave the foolish. Meanwhile, Rhapsody was kind, wily, playful, and overflowing with happiness and positivity.
But Diadora was the Empress and had very little time or temperament to humor the girl, treating Rhapsody more like a soldier than a daughter. This created a divide between the two of them, with Rhapsody constantly trying to make a connection where there was none.

Education

Rhapsody was set to be trained and educated by the best and brightest within the entire Empire, the top fighters and greatest minds they could produce, by all accounts she should be a genius both on and off the field. Shame she spent almost all of that time dicking around with the instructors, neglecting her studies, and blowing off her work. To be fair, as Diadora's daughter, she has a fair bit of natural talent to make up for her training but it couldn't have hurt to pay attention.

Employment

Diadora was employed as a special emissary of the Empress, her actions and words were taken as being directly from Her Majesty, and to defy her was to commit treason. She primarily was only dispatched to deal with especially safe or simple missions, such as public appearances or small pirate battles as Diadora believed Rhapsody lacked the discipline and concentration needed to handle more serious missions.

Motivation

Rhapsody grew up in lavish towers and expansive palaces, with king-sized dinner tables filled with enough food to feed a small town. But she was alone, the Royal Guard stood like stone at the ready for danger, never batting an eye at her requests for food fights or pleas to come and play make-pretend with her. But what she hated the most were those empty dinner tables, so much food, too much food for one person to possibly eat by themselves. What she wanted the most were friends to sit around that table with her, to laugh and enjoy life with.
