The Iron Guard

The Iron Guard was an elite guard unite created to protect the Brennis Royal Family and more importantly the ruling king/queen at all costs.
During the burning of Hope's Thone, the royal guard who were in charge of protecting the castle and the royal family were quickly dispatched by the vampires of the Dead Sun Empire. The men fought bravely but they were no match against their enemy. They had little to no real world combat experience, and as a result did not last long. This was a critical error that cost King Rain Brennis I, and his family their lives, and the castle's destruction.
When the Dead Sun Empire was beaten back out of Brennis months later, the nation was battered and bruised and on the verge of death. The royal family had been nearly killed off, and only Victoria had survived. Walter, a former guard himself, had volunteered to help reform the guard force for the royal family for free and set to work right away finding the best and bravest in Brennis.
Victoria remained safe under the care of Cass in the Dran Academy off the coast of Orisia in the meantime. Walter did not want her to return to the mainland before her guard was made ready.
After a two week search Walter had found 20 men who had resisted the Dead Sun Empire in one way or another and lived to tell the tale. They, like nearly everyone else in the Kingdom, were weak and skinny to due food shortages, but Walter began their training right away. They started with initial weapon training, hand to hand combat, logistical planning, wilderness survival training, and basic medical care.
After two months they, alongside Walter, went on a half year long excursion across Brennis cleaning up the country. They took on crime groups in Port Lunis, dangerous wild animals in the Homesunk Swamp, a Shallow Stalker nest on the Rotted Coast, and spent three weeks up in the Ambit during the middle of Winter.
By the end of their journey they were the best trained military force since the armies of Rodina in their prime. Walter was incredibly pleased with the results all his men had given him and spent an entire week by himself looking over each of the men's profiles and progress before finally making his selection.
Walter had granted twelve of the men the title of Anvil Core, four men the title of Iron Guard, and four men the title of Anvil Ranger.
Each of the men received their new title with pride, they would each be the first of their roles and in time continue to improve and perfect their positions are they recruited more people to their ranks.
While Victoria in her absence had sent messages to the people of Brennis via messengers, she had still yet to return to mainland Brennis since the attack on Hopeshelm over a year prior. It was the men of the Anvil Core that guarded her and escorted her, where she made her first in person appearance only at the age of 11 in Hopeshelm. She was later that week officially crowned Queen of Brennis by her council.

Composition

Training

The original four Iron Guards underwent long and extensive training. This is a tradition that has not since changed. New Iron Guard are pulled from the Anvil Core after being selected for outstanding performance. They are each sworn to serve the Royal Family until their last breath during their time as an Iron Guard.
