Kotimo
This tropical city is located between an island transporter and the Nokoraine forest on the southern island of Zedrath. It is a popular vacation spot, especially during the winter. People from colder climates enjoy visiting for the warmer weather and numerous attractions.
Kotimo has a central park that is open to the public 24/7. There are enough street lamps to keep it well lit at night and it's one of the safest locations in the city. Well kempt walking paths wind through the area. There are numerous benches and sheltered tables for sitting and gatherings. In the middle of the park there is a large fountain with a mermaid centerpiece. It is said that if you listen hard enough, you just might hear her whisper to you through the water. There is also a playground, grilling stations, a tennis court, and many flower beds and gardens to explore.
In the southeastern portion is the museum and artificer district. Here several building contain different exhibits ranging from art history, farming, marine life, to agriculture. The largest central building houses a museum for technology. It is here that the artificer's guild is located. Each one is free to visit. They earn revenue from the themed gift shops and tax funding.
To the northeast is the Sunny Field's Orchid. It is run and owned by an Oizai couple. Kali and Ailen Shimmerscale inherited the land from Kali's grandparents. They grow various exotic and tropical fruit trees. Visitors can buy bushels in the main building in the front of the orchid along with fruit wine and baked goods.
Kotimo's town hall and board along with the large hotel are located in the southwest while in the northwest is a small Sun Soul monastery. The hotel is always lively throughout the entire year and hits capacity during holidays and festivals.
Due to its tropical shore location, Kotimo has always been a hot spot for hurricanes, monsoons, and similar storms. They are hit the heaviest between late spring and mid summer. Over the years many buildings were badly damaged or lost completely. The citizens always rebuilt and learned to better prepare after each one. In the year 832, with the help of mages and artificers, a weatherproof barrier system was built. It is a strong, protective magic barrier that can be activated anytime a storm is set to approach. Routine maintenance is needed to keep up magical charges and structure integrity.
