The College of Kydonia is an age-old institution situated just south of the Wall of Svadilfari. Over the centuries a large settlement established itself around the college.
"... lack critical information, unfortunately. In the month and a half I was allowed to live in the settlement surrounding the College, I was never admitted as a member. It seems my fame as a writer was enough for them to not want me snooping around the inside of their main facilities. Which begs the question, what are they hiding?
My previous research and etymology of the word Kydonia itself suggest there is a link between the college and Agarthani. Given that the college sits neatly inside evermorian border, the author ponders that if one were to ascertain that the college is indeed somehow connected to that foreign power to this day, that it could become grounds for a conflict that would doubtlessly end in the total annihilation of the college and persecution of its proponents. Or would it? Maybe the uncertainty of their true motives and capabilities is the deterrent to such a conflict. As I mentioned earlier, I lack the means to unearth the truth."
A small excerpt from the book 'Evermore: Empire of Conquest', by Hum'ro Skadi, as published in 2355 AFL.
The College, as the name implies, is a learning institution. They are selective as to who is accepted as a student and practitioner, something considered necessary due to the secrets they intend to keep. The college was founded by a group of Agarthani exiles who at first wished to educate the people of the mainland continent - a land they considered savage and godless - in the ways of their people and bring about peace for all. A combination of lifetimes spent in the presence of different people and cultures, along with a slow realization that the country that had expelled them was no better than any other, led to a change of heart and the creation of the college as it is known today.
A learning institution through an through, the college also seeks to illuminate and instil the value of the cardinal virtues taught in Agarthani into the minds and hearts of the local populace. Rather than have it as the only guiding truths of human life, however, it is taught only as an example of how to live better, more complete lives, without the limitations and one-mindedness prevalent in agarthani culture.
A more secretive sect of the college focused on a more active approach to the betterment of human life known as Phalanxus are trained in combat, however. This group of people are taught from an early age to withstand the ravages of nature and fight unholy abominations, a great many of them choosing to venture out in the world to serve as aspects of Temperance, Fortitude, Justice and Prudence. These warriors are taught to make no mention of their affiliation to the college, which helps keep the insitution safe from outside interference and regulation by the government of Evermore.
