Oli'val

Associated Schools of Magic

Illusion

The school of Illusion alters the senses of a mage's target(s), causing them to see, hear, or even feel that the mage's creation is real.

Transmutation

The school of Transmutation focuses on altering the physical properties of a target whether animate, inanimate, or for positive or negative purposes. While potentially useful for charlatans as wealth generators, this is highly frowned upon by The Academy.

Conjuration

The school of Conjuration focuses on summoning or banishing objects and creatures from other locations and planes. Often overlooked by the general population of Omiralon, the school is seen as nearly as dangerous as Necromancy, given it's potential use of summoning creatures the caster cannot hope to bring under their control.

Divine Domains

Illusion

As the patron deity of Illusion, Oli'val is frequently depicted and described as a trickster, toying with even his own disciples, the Red Robes of the Academy. While this might be seen as a deity that would then not be worthy of devotion, the Red Robes view this aspect of the deity as a way to further understand and emulate his character. Each mage inwardly wishes to be tricked by Oli'val, if only to have the story as a sign of being favored by him.

Dusk

Hoelis, due to its color, is often the first moon to set. As this is often a symbol for Oli'val, he is often described as the "one that steals the sun away". Further, to the uninformed, Oli'val is seen as a selfish deity, bestowing favor on only his chosen and choosing only the truly dedicated. While the followers of Oli'val might admit this is rooted in the truth, they would argue it is far from the whole truth. As a result, Oli'val is closely tied to Dusk. It is often said that if a devout were to walk into an enclosed space (a house, a forest, etc) at dusk, beckoning Oli'val, the Arcane would cause the place to become an illusion, and whisk you away to do his bidding.

Tenets of Faith

  • Nothing is as it seems. Everything is suspect.
  • The greatest illusion is the one that fools even the creator.
  • Twilight is a blessed time during which the mind and the body lie to each other.

Holidays

The Day of Seeming is a jovial holiday celebrated by both mages and non-mages alike, though Humans especially embrace the tradition. Celebrated on the first day of the first full week of Peneum, young and old alike are encouraged to trick or startle a friend or acquaintance, often through the use of a disguise. This earns them an "evening star" (usually a copper coin or fraction thereof). At the end of the day, a feast is presented during which each participant "counts their stars" and relays the story of the best trick of their day. It is seen as polite and generous to offer one's "stars" to the subject of the trick after it's telling, but this is inconsistently practiced. Despite its roots as a holiday devoted to Oli'val, its association with the Arcane has faded, and few remain who remember its origin.
One of Three The deities of magic, known as the "Arcanes" are worshipped nearly exclusively by mages. Protectors of the fabric of magic in Omiralon, the Arcanes work together, despite their opposing teachings, to maintain the balance of magic. Even the youngest of the students at The Academy are taught to respect each of the three no matter which, if any, they choose to follow. In the ancient tales, they often work together by the request of Qhiriles, as the arbiters between the gods. They are respected, even between the Immortals, as being impartial judges.
