The Sunspots Incident was one of the darkest days for the city of Las Vegas. One day in Nevada, at around 6 PM on the 3rd of July, 1979; the sky began to darken. Heavy clouds began to form as, without warning, fires began to break out in three points throughout the city and the surrounding areas. The three areas, referred to in official records as Sunspots, were the unincorporated town of Paradise, North Las Vegas, and the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Manifestation

Beginning

As previously stated, circles of fire began to break out throughout Las Vegas and the surrounding areas. At first, it was attributed to arson. However, as time went on, it became increasingly clear that the fires were not natural, as despite all efforts to extinguish the flames, they would not go out and would keep growing in size. At this point, clouds would begin to form in the area, completely darkening the sky. Not a single bit of light would cut through the clouds.

As the flames continued to grow in size, growing hotter and hotter, the ground in the midst of the large circles would begin to cave in, creating massive holes in the ground. Immediately, people were instructed to evacuate the area while authorities began making efforts to stop these fires. Alongside this, other strange phenomena were observed:

All TV screens and computer monitors in the region began to display red static.

Religious items and artifacts belonging to abrahamic religions began to melt.

Tears forming en masse all around the area.

Apotheosis

The chaos continued until 8 PM, where it would begin to reach a high point of disaster. Each of the three holes in the area would begin to emit high levels of fire, brimstone and Mana, rising up into the sky. Once the heat reached the clouds, a Warp Storm began. From the three holes and the many tears, Demons, including Succubi, Incubi, and Vires; began to come out of them. The destruction they caused upon being let out was catastrophic, with many buildings being destroyed and lives being lost.

The portals and tears would close around 11 PM. Even after the National Guard and eventually the military came in to fight back the hoards of demons, however, the situation was far from peaceful. Although the fires could now be put out, there was a torrental Mana Rain occuring after the Warp Storm ended, and a whole lot of demons had managed to escape from the area. The damages were ranged to be in the millions, fatalities were estimated to be in the thousands.

Aftermath

Reconstruction efforts were made to restore the damaged Nas Vegas and surrounding areas, with aid coming in from all around the country and even amongst the allies of the United States at the time. From that day forward, there would be steady reports of demonic activity occuring across the world, with a few tears even bringing in the creatures from what is presumed to be Hell. Cambions began to appear in larger quantities, as well.

The United States government, meanwhile, quickly realized that it needed protection from further demonic activity, as well as magical incidents. With this in mind, a black-ops government organization was created, to research demons and prepare for further disasters.

This organization was named the Tower Below Babel. No one could've predicted what tragedies followed from it's formation.
