Barakil, the Golden Dragon

Godking Barakil (a.k.a. Golden Dragon)

Divine Domains

Leadership, justice, balance, willpower, perseverance, duality, and wisdom, patron to kings and dragons.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

As the god of balance, Barakil mostly involves himself with maintaining the balance of the universe. In times of hardship and strife he brings order and salvation, while in times of peace and stability he brings chaos and destruction. All this is done with ensuring the continued survival of the universe, as he witnessed firsthand what can happen when the balance of the universe is disrupted when the god Eo was imprisoned in another dimension.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Barakil is typically represented as either a golden dragon or a wizened king with a golden crown. In both depictions, he typically holds a balance scale in one hand and a gleaming sword in the other. In his draconic depiction, he is sometimes shown with a blazing halo above his head.

Apparel & Accessories

Barakil, in both his human and draconic forms, is often depicted wielding a balance scale in one hand and a sword in the other, with some kind of golden crown above his head. The scale is indicative of his position as the god of balance, the sword represents not only his ability as a tactician and leader, but also represents the King's Blade, the legendary sword which Barakil wielded before the Second Creation to help defeat and imprison the God of Time Eo. His crown represents both his position as the Godking and his immense wisdom.

Mental characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements

Barakil is often considered to be the Firstborn of the gods, although this may or may not be true as there is no way of knowing for sure. He is said to have been one of the children of Zalcar, the original Godking, and one of the Three Dreamers. He, along with the six other gods spawned from the soul of Zalcar and with the aid Aztravel, the creator of dimensional space and the material world, were responsible for sealing away Eo, the god of time and prophecy, to prevent him from consuming creation. He would later shed a part of his soul to create dragonkind, and even later would come to champion mankind as well despite initially holding them in disdain.

Morality & Philosophy

Barakil is typically seen as a benevolent god by most mortals in modern Forgosia. He is believed to be the embodiment of a wise and just ruler. It is said he took pity on mankind when his own children, the dragons, abused their power to subjugate them, and aided mankind in winning their freedom from the Dragonreign. However, being the embodiment of true neutrality, he is also sometimes depicted as a tyrant, especially in early representations from the races of man. He is believed to sometimes make decisions that do harm in the short run but do more good in the long run. He sees all aspects of the universe as equally important to each other to ensure the universe remains stable, and so acts to maintain that balance.

Social

Family Ties

Barakil is the husband of Ellana, the goddess of wisdom and foresight, and is the father of Faligore, the god of war. Markath is considered to be his younger brother. Some believe that he, Jiaantor, and Sarthu are all aspects of the same deity, while others believe that he, along with the other six spawned from Zalcar, are simply aspects of the one god Zalcar. Others also hold that he is analogous to the Jornic god Bor, and may also be connected to the Sutherlandic deity Oren, although that is a hotly debated matter, as others believe Oren to be a manifestation of Zalcar, the combined personas of multiple different gods interpreted or melded into one singular god, or something the Suthermen themselves created.
