Syntralia Settlement in Onyxeptah | World Anvil

Syntralia

Syntralia was built several hundred years ago at the foot of Godsbane Summit, which was thought to be a mountain. After several agricultural seasons, the ground became unstable, disrupting something within the mountain. The once rich and fertile soil began rapidly losing nutrients and the rivers became brackish and polluted. Agriculture and fishing was no long sustainable. The people of the city persisted, unwilling to leave their seaside settlement. As years passed the seasons got worst and the soil began turning to salt. The worstening agricultural conditions pushed the citizens of Syntralia to begin selling their own people into slavery as a form of barter and trade to maintain their home. Eventually it was discovered that the mountain they had settled around was in fact a dormant volcano that was slowly coming back to life with each passing season. Periodic eruptions of salt and ash coated the city, killing great parts of the population and further damaging the land. The eruptions became The Blight destroying water sources, crops and livestock. The people stubbornly refused to leave their home and have tried to weather the worsening conditions of their land as the blight spreads further and further.
