Baron

Baron (or the feminine equivalent, Baroness) is a hereditary title denoting minor nobility, primarily in the Aquatic Kingdoms, Erdelan, and Dreibach.
In Erdelan, baronies not attached to land are often granted to paladins and craftsmen of great renown. In place of the name of a township, such barons are given a title that describes their deeds, such as the Baron of Shieldcraft or the Baron of Retribution. They earn the right to pass the title down through their eldest children for seven generations.
In Scalados, the title holds varying levels of power, a holdover from the days of the Ohtoku Period. In particular, the four baronic houses of Ramdailos hold an unusual amount of political power and influence over the city. The fortress of the Duke of Arawndor was built relatively far from the city, near Sladkoro-in-Arawn, long before Ramdailos was a major population center.
Baron and baroness are also used as self-styled titles for Death Knights, particularly in conjunction with the name of a Fiend or a legendary location in the Nine Hells or similarly evil-aligned planes.
