Prozhg'atua

A prozhg'atua (W. Orokhimshe: "blaze of the gods") is a wildfire of enormous scale that spreads from the Elemental Plane of Fire through the Western Woods. They are known for their massive size, extreme heat, and erratic paths; many folk tales describe a village seemingly surrounded by the prozhg'atua and doomed to burn emerging almost entirely unscathed.   The first prozhg'atua in recorded history happened in Y250 ITG, shortly after Reshvaun Tsuun and his band of 119 refugees from The Extinguishing arrived in the Western Woods. The blaze raged for several months, forcing the orc hordes pursuing the refugees to turn back while sparing the druidic circles that had agreed to take in refugees. Some legends see the blaze as a blessing from Prometheus meant as a last-ditch effort to protect his people; others describe it as a deliberate counterattack from the Archdruids of the woods, aided by their deep connection with fire.

Manifestation

A prozhg'atua is a fast-spreading forest fire that quickly reaches temperatures upwards of 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The thick black smoke from a prozhg'atua travels easily on the wind, and has been known to turn the sky an eerie shade of orange or yellow as far away as the Ossir Hills.

Localization

A prozhg'atua can only occur within the Western Woods; no other forest has the massive size, relatively dry winters, and proximity to the Elemental Plane of Fire that all contribute to the destructive power of a prozhg'atua. (Similarly-sized fires in the Eldar Wood, which are locally known as briguinë, tend to fade sooner and burn in a more predictable path.)

This was super cool! I really liked how gave both a broad entry to into the event, your world, and people all in the one article. I definitely have a good idea of how the prozhg'atua affects your world. It makes me want to learn more about your world. Best of luck during summer camp! - Amanda :)
