Tenser's Day

Tenser's Day (March 31), sometimes called Saint Tenser's Day, is the celebration of the birthday of the Archmage Tenser, a pioneer of both transmutation magic and transgender rights.

History

The first Tenser's Day parades were organized in Cantonova in Y566 by local transgender activist groups and mage's guilds to celebrate the 80th birthday of the beloved archmage. The tradition grew each year, even after their death, until it became the major spring holiday it is today.   Ice Cream was invented for a Tenser's Day festival in Urbana al-Svara in Y798.

Execution

The central event of a Tenser's Day celebration is typically a large parade. The parade usually features the work of Illusionists and other magicians, alongside dancers, marching bands, beast-riders, and elaborate horse-drawn floats.   After the parade, street fairs, tavern parties, and magic shows often last well into the night.

Components and tools

Transgender people wear ribbons in shades of pastel pink, purple, and blue. These are usually woven into one's hair or worn as a necktie or armband, but a number of other creative uses of the ribbons are often seen.   As a nod to Tenser's past as an Alchemist, gold jewelry and the alchemical symbol for gold are common motifs of the holiday as well.

Observance

Tenser's Day is celebrated on 31 March. Since this is typically one of the first consistently nice spring days in many major cities, its celebration has spread beyond the wizards and transgender people who invented the holiday, and it has grown into a celebration widely enjoyed by all.
