Vecna
Vecna was an ancient scholar and evil king who ruled Bjália during the middle years of the Age of Anxiety. Ey are widely considered the first Lich.
Vecna began eyr life as a high elven Istyima scribe named Navec te-Morigana, often called Navec the Bryght for eyr sharp mind and fair appearance. Ey repeatedly summoned Morigana through secret rituals cast over years of intense devotion, begging her to grant em the vision of the gods. Eventually, Morigana acquiesced, cursing em with the ability to see far more than a mortal mind can comprehend. Ey were driven to evil and madness, and used eyr incredible power to rule over portions of present-day Scalados for centuries.
Artifacts
Vecna left behind three evil artifacts that have repeatedly resurfaced in the hands of evildoers across the centuries.
The Eye of Vecna was a pure silver orb that could replace an eyeball in an empty socket. It was said to grant sight unlike any mortal's: the foresight of supernatural intelligence, the ability to see through any illusion, and divination powers that could allow one to see the future and past as easily as even the greatest Diviner. Along with that sight, however, came an inevitable paranoia and madness, as no mortal was meant to see this much of the multiverse at one time.
The Hand of Vecna was a blackened, almost talon-like left hand. It dripped an ichor, only visible on the Etheral Plane, that slowly ate away at the Soul of any mortal it touched. Anyone who cut off their own left hand and replaced it with the Hand of Vecna gained supernatural strength, enhanced magical powers (if already trained as spellcasters), and the ability to reach through space and time. The Dread Folio is the book ey wrote in eyr first thirteen years of lichdom, full of the most vile arcane and divine procedures and possibilities imaginable. It is said to be the source of the secret rituals for becoming a lich. Its location is unknown, but no reliable source has proved its destruction.
