Volian Revolution
The Conflict
Prelude
In Y909, an outbreak of Quoluvë hit Isla Voli and killed King Flavio II and his sons Roderigo and Bertriardo-Flavio. Since his daughter Eduigina had already married Crown Prince Iovanis of Dreibach, putting her in line for their throne and thus ineligible for ruling in the Aquatic Kingdoms, the line of succession continued to his cousin, Grimoaldo II. This upset many who remembered the Y871 coup in which his father, Grimoaldo I, ousted Bertriardo and ruled the island with an iron fist for five years. Despite his assurances his rule would be fair and just, the public began to worry as guard presence on the streets slowly rose and long-ignored laws began to see harsher and harsher punishments. Many in the public, particularly in Port Nabucco, started to whisper about dethroning Grimoaldo in favor of returning Queen Mother Rodelinda, widow of King Bertriardo I, to the throne.
Deployment
The remaining member of parliament and Queen Mother Rodelinda were captured later that day and immediately executed for treason on order of King Grimoaldo. The King disbanded the Parliament and declared martial law across Isla Voli. Protests and riots erupted in the streets of Longobardi and spread across the island as the news did. King Grimoaldo's forces filled the streets, and he began reinstating ancient and deeply unpopular practices such as strict curfews, forced conscription, and public floggings and amputations as punishments for crimes.
