Children of Mars

The Children of Mars (more accurately the "Sons of Mars" in the original Marineri) are a religious sect of the Native Martian population that deify Hannah Seung, the last surviving Earth-born Martian Colonist who raised the first generation of Martians. They consider her to be the “Mother of Mars”, responsible for their births, education, and the development of the flora and fauna that sustain them.
A large number of the Children of Mars are also members of the New Dawn movement, though it is a mistake to assume all of The Children are New Dawn terrorists.

Structure

Each tribe or village affiliated with The Children is led by a Dooktar, an elder holding religious and political power. Ad Hoc tribal councils are formed to make decisions that affect larger populations, where Dooktars from different villages and tribes will be invited to discuss issues that affect their followers. The Children of Mars once had a central leadership, based on Hannah's eldest and most favored children, but internal schisms and conflict decentralized the group.
