Franco-American
Franco-Americans are an ethnicity within the United North American States that traces their ancestry to the French colonies in America centuries ago. Two main divisions exist within the Franco-American population: the "Canadiens" originating from Quebec and Acadia, and the "Cajuns" largely based in Louisiana. The Cajuns themselves originated from the Acadian French, but developed into a distinctly separate culture over the centuries. After North American unification, many Cajun communities sought to reconnect with their cousins in the North, resulting in a deepening of ties between the two communities.
Franco-Americans are distinctly different from more recent immigrants from France and other Francophone nations and territories, as those cultures have developed separately from the Franco-American experience.
