High Performance Fitness Uniform (HPFU)

”In cadence, exercise!”
Physical fitness is an important aspect of any professional military force. This is particularly true of the TASA Marine Corps and TASA Space Corps where the rigors of space and extraterrestrial combat put additional strain on the human body. TASA Marines pride themselves on their exceptional physical fitness and strict entrance requirements compared to most Terrestrial Forces.   It is no surprise, then, that the High Performance Fitness Uniform (HPFU) is an integral part of any Marine’s wardrobe. From the first day of Basic Training, this is the first uniform afforded to Marine recruits. Throughout the rest of a Marine’s career these uniforms are worn during Physical Training, PT tests, and other athletic endeavors. The HPFU is also acceptable off-duty attire and the ONLY off-duty attire authorized in Initial Entry Training, during deployments, or when serving aboard spacecraft. The HPFU is favored for its comfortable fit that allows a full range of motion and the cutting edge, breathable fabrics that help regulate body temperature.

No 1. Short Sleeve HPFU

The basic version of the HPFU consists of a short sleeve athletic shirt and athletic shorts. Both are made of a stretchable fabric that conforms to the wearer’s form. The HPFU shirt is also used as an undershirt in certain other uniforms. This variant of the uniform is worn in mild and hot climates, indoors, and while aboard spacecraft. Wearable devices are usually authorized in this uniform for fitness monitoring purposes (subject to unit commander’s discretion).

No 2. Short Sleeve HPFU w/ High Visibility Safety Bands

The HPFU may be accessorized with arm, leg, and waist safety bands. These bands are usually worn during running events and when conducting physical fitness in a low light environment (nighttime hours, twilight hours, inclement weather, locations more than 1 AU from the sun). The Safety Bands clip directly into the ends of the HPFU’s sleeves and waistband, and the elastic material is only slightly more rigid than the HPFU’s fabric, and must be adjusted to the wearer’s measurements to avoid a loose or constrictingly tight fit.   There are several hardpoints on the arm bands and waist band for mounting fitness accessories including electronic fitness monitors (seen here), hydration carriers, and personal identification panels. The bands are brightly colored and made of a blend of luminescent and reflective materials. The default color is fluorescent yellow, but unit commanders may authorize other colors to identify leaders, subordinate units, medics, and other specialized personnel. Note: Pink safety bands are no longer authorized due to deployed personnel using pink bands to solicit sexual activity. Commanders may initiate UCMJ action for unprofessional behavior to any Marine wearing pink safety bands.

No 3. Long Sleeve HPFU

In colder climates the long sleeve HPFU variant is worn. This variant consists of the athletic shorts of the short sleeve HPFU along with a long sleeve athletic shirt. Layered over the shorts is a pair of wind-resistant athletic pants with high visibility cuffs. Additional components of this variant include a wind-and-rain-resistant jacket with high visibility trimming and a microfleece cap. These components work in concert to trap body heat. When all components are worn, the uniform is rated to -10C, but wearer health should be monitored below 0C. The jacket and pants may be removed if body temperature becomes too high or additional mobility is needed.
