Bergshale River

The Bergshale River lies in the west of Holzreich and is generally regarded as the dividing feature between Holz and Siarland. Prior to the Reich-Farraigen War, the river marked the border between Holzreich and the Kingdom of Farraige.

Geography

The river flows from the Bergshale lake, lying in a basin on the south eastern reaches of the Khelreach Range. The river itself is surrounded by a dense pine forest. A delta lies at the mouth of the river where it flows into the Gold Sea.

Fauna & Flora

The forest on the western bank of the river boasts a large amount of silvan berries, raspberries and blueberries. Deer are a common sight within these woods, as are hares, and on rare occasion a perceptive watcher might chance upon a sighting of the rare Khelreachean Lynx. Bears are also sighted on occasion foraging for berries or fishing in the shallows of the river.

  • History

During the Elven Age, the Bergshale River demarked the reach of what was considered civilised Elven territory, with Siarland beyond being considered a frontier wilderness.   The Reichguard's crossing of the river at the beginning of the Reich-Farraigen War is one of the most distincitive memories of Farraigeans whom are old enough to remember.
