Travel and Encumbrence

Each character must consume at least two pounds of food and one gallon of water a day, equivalent to one ration and two waterskins, respectively. If a character does not eat at least this amount, then the character gains one point of exhaustion per day without eating. Consuming the requisite amount of food and water clears this exhaustion.   We are using the Variant Encumbrance Rules, with the addition that all armor weighs half as much. The rules for encumbrance are as follows:
  • If you carry weight in excess of 5 times your Strength score, you are encumbered, which means your speed drops by 10 feet.
  • If you carry weight in excess of 10 times your Strength score, up to your maximum carrying capacity, you are instead heavily encumbered, which means your speed drops by 20 feet and you have disadvantage on ability checks, attack rolls, and saving throws that use Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution.

Combat

Change from last year: Flanking no longer grants any bonuses
  • Fall damage now deals 2d6 damage for every 10ft past the first 10ft. Any fall past 100ft is instantly fatal for characters, barring spells or abilities such as Feather Fall
  • We will be using cover this year. Here are the following cover types:
    • A target with half cover has a +2 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws. A target has half cover if an obstacle blocks at least half of its body. The obstacle might be a low wall. a large piece of furniture, a narrow tree trunk, or a creature, whether that creature is an enemy or a friend.
    • A target with three-quarters cover has a +5 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws. A target has threequarters cover if about three-quarters of it is covered by an obstacle. The obstacle might be a portcullis. an arrow slit, or a thick tree trunk.
    • A target with total cover can't be targeted directly by an attack or a spell, although some spells can reach such a target by including it in an area of effect. A target has total cover if it is completely concealed by an obstacle.

Spells

Change from last year: Spellcasters can no longer cast spells as a bonus action and an action on the same turn (unless it's a cantrip). See PHB page 202 for additional information.
  • Goodberry now consumes the material component when cast.
