The Ghostlands

The Ghostlands are one of Orphan’s thirteen splinters, so named because they are plagued by death spirits and feral ghosts. The splinter lies perilously close to the Howling Void, and as a result the westernmost reaches of the region are a nightscape of dead earth and petrified trees, where no sun shines and living things wilt and die, where black fires burn without heat or sound. Even on the outskirts of this region, the sun only gives a handful of hours of fitful, reddish light per day, and the deleterious influence of the Void can cause fatigue, sterility, and other complaints.   The Ghostlands splinter is remote; most aetherships that come to it are only passing through on their way to somewhere else. Even the parts of it that have not been poisoned by the Howling Void are somewhat desolate: windswept expanses of yellow grassland, dotted with forlorn stone formations and populated by herds of wild horses.   While the Ghostlands are practically devoid of permanent settlements—their native people, the Rhonir, are nomadic—they contain a large number of ruins and other ancient leavings. Tchernac, the Ghostlands’ only city, is built into the guts of a gargantuan biomechanical construct at the center of a field littered with the rusted remains of war machines.   The Ghostlands are linked by pharos routes to the Andarine Sea and Nocturne.
