The Witchmire

The Witchmire is one of Orphan’s thirteen splinters, a tropical landscape of primordial jungle and swampland, dotted with weed-choked ruins and swarming with venomous wildlife. Overgrown, feverishly humid, and full of danger, it’s a nightmare to traverse, and the majority of it has yet to be cleared out and settled.   For all its dangers, the Witchmire is often breathtakingly beautiful, but unfortunately much of it is also quite badly polluted. Witchstone, a mineral with a number of applications in the field of magecraft, is found only in the Witchmire, and its extraction and use has ravaged the local environment. Mutated beasts stalk the jungle, and acid rain falls on swamps whose waters have a sickly iridescent sheen.   The mages of Ashaara have a history of using witchstone for strange and dangerous experiments. In recent years, the region has been the scene of a drawn-out civil war, after a caste of indentured servants rose up against their Ashaarin masters. Now, the former Ashaarin capital lies in ruins, and the conflict shows no signs of abating.   The Witchmire is linked by pharos routes to Fel Dhavash and the Orosca Desert.
