Kleinshaus
This tavern and inn sits on on Onderkleins Island and is popular by sailors heading north or south through the Gedder Zee. It has a small dockyard and can moor a handful of large sailing vessels and accommodate their crews. A steady flow of business rolls in and out of here at all times of the year. Many visitors from afar come to stay at Kleinshaus just to catch a glimpse of many of the personalities of the Frisian navy, or a famous and rich merchant and his wife.
Architecture
The Kleinshaus utilizes all the small space it is given by being 4 stories high. The bottom level is the cellar and the pantry. Guests enter on the second floor after coming up from the docks, the only way to the Kleinshaus. This floor has the tavern and common room. Also here are a handful of small rooms where patrons can rent for hours at a time to conduct business. On the third and fourth levels are rooms that vary from meager accommodations to lavish suites.
History
Kleinshaus was built only in the last thirty years as a business venture to capitalize off of the vast amounts of sea trade flowing past Onderberg. The merchant Lisias van Born anticipated that if he utilized cheap land on Onderkleins Island that no one wanted he could turn a hefty profit by hosting this inn outside of Onderberg itself. The Merchants of Onderberg have tried over the years to allow their tax collectors and assessors into the Kleinshaus to exact tolls and customs fees from those bypassign Onderberg, but so far van Born's lawyers have pevented that.
We figure we coulda' stopped in Onderberg itself and saw the town, but then we would have had to pay exorbitant dock fees and taxes. So we sailed over to Kleinshaus. That place was booked to the brim! Not a spot on the docks at all for our ship. It seems many others also don't like to pay taxes.
