Yubaoc's Gift
Yubaoc’s Gift
People are told not to be afraid in moments of strife. These lies solidify the fate of the obedient and the ignorant. Without fear, they walk blindly to their graves. Fear is a power that drives a mortal to power; it is a tool that is used to obtain and keep authority. This is because power is a sanctuary from fears. The power to place other lives in front of you to protect yourself is interesting. To have people who will stand in between you and your fears is a remarkable aspect of mortals. The only thing that puts mortals in this obligation of service through death is fear. Fear is more binding than an oath of honor. I think that humans are the best example of mortals. They possess the most interesting qualities. Humans are selfish (and with good reason). The most common fear I have encountered in mortals is a fear of death. Yet... mortals seem to praise those who overcome a fear of death. Even those who are guided by Hayrt fear death; this is the mortal quality I am in awe of. I cannot comprehend the will to deny one's nature for the purpose of bettering a world you no longer reside in. Martyrs are championed for their influence on the world through their death. Their power comes from the respect mortals have for death. They fear death so much that when another mortal prioritizes a cause above their fear of death, it is significant. An event which cuts you from your ability to influence the world.
Back to the topic of power... Mortals crave authority. A counterargument to my previous statement on martyrdom could be made in regards to suicide. Mortals see suicide in varying levels of reverence; the point being made is that it is a desperate grab for autonomy; in denying one's self they exemplify what it means to be mortal. The one thing that mortals possibly place above fear is their pride. Pride derived from power. Power is something that allows them to be lethargic. Now that fear of death has been pushed onto the soldiers who risk their lives to end the lives of people you declared should die, you can rest easy; you have attained strength.
Fear's grasp is one of knowledge. It is a vision of fate that allows you to see into the future. So why are those, who adhere to the omen, condemned as cowards? This expectation demands an acceptance of inferiority, a direct denial of mortal nature. Despite the glorification of courage, any mortal that is truly void of fear would be a heretic. Truly fearless mortals are condemned of blasphemy. Remember, fearlessness in the face of a god is the highest crime a mortal can commit. Be watchful of your pride and bravery. Your monarchs, who symbolize courage and dignity, dwell near an unforgivable transgression. This is Yubaoc's gift. Heed to it wisely mortals.
