Composition

Manpower

At any given time there are around 2000 Exemplars, though their numbers increase by one or two every year someone bonds with a wyrmling.

Equipment

Exemplars are trained in the use of special saddles that allow them to ride their dragons while still being mobile and capable of fighting themselves.

Weaponry

Exemplars are equipped and trained with the Jian and Longbows, and wear studded leather armor.

Structure

There are four Exemplar Generals. Two from The Dawn's Wings and two from The Dawn's Light. Below them are Commanders who lead a troop of around one hundred soldiers. The troops are split into squadrons of 20 and then (if necessary) split again into bands of 5.

Training

Exemplars go through rigorous training with their bonded dragons in order to reach their full potential. All initiates must pass the Exemplar tests before they are brought into the formation. Failure in the trials results in the student and dragon being brought before a small council where a length of time is agreed upon before the initiate can retake the trials.

The Dawn's Crown, who are soldiers not bonded to dragons, act mostly as guards within the cities and are available for most instances which do not require an Exemplar's attention.

Upkeep

Due to the nature of Dragons, a heavy toll is taken on resources to sustain the Exemplars. As Dragon's are intelligent and considered citizens of the Dynasty they are allotted the same rights as human citizens.

Recruitment

Exemplar training is begun at childhood, no later than ten years old. Hopefuls are brought to Hatcheries and introduced to the Dragons and their Wyrmlings. With the rarity of dragon births and the general understanding of the rough life Exemplars lead, there are usually no more than five hopefuls a year.

History

Exemplars have only fought in three wars. Each time it was an invasion from across the sea and each time the invaders were fought back.
