Oil of Majar
"What's a Majar? You mean the palace or the oil? Because the palace is easy enough, but if you're asking about the oil, you're clearly new to this."There are four things known about oil of Majar:
- It's definitely organic
- Only found in Chemnos, but doesn't seem to have much to do with the Palace of Majar
- Incredibly useful and surprisingly non-flammable
- Don't ask what a Majar is
Very Organic
All tests that scientists and mages alike have performed on this stuff indicate that it is in fact a naturally occurring element. All attempts at duplicating it in a laboratory have failed. The process of collecting it is quite simple: the oil simply appears in large puddles in set locations. Oftentimes it simply wells up overnight.Only Chemnos
The only known way to get oil of Majar is to collect it in Chemnos. Other countries have attempted to take it back and create their own in some way, but it always fails and while they usually end up with some kind of oil, it's never precisely oil of Majar.Incredibly Useful
The oil is used in most situations where oil would be used as a lubricant, as it has a pleasant piney scent and doesn't catch on fire as easily as most other oils. As might be assumed, it's not as useful in situations where one wishes the oil to catch fire. Circuses make great use of this oil for performances involving fire and being slippery. So do Heroes and Overlords, when the circumstances call for it. Apparently it makes for rather interesting results when deep fat frying deserts.Seriously, Don't
No one credible is able to explain what a Majar is or might be. The only theory as to what the oil might be is that it is some kind of urine, and as that theory is suitably unpleasant, most people are content to leave the matter alone. For those who pursue further, they usually end up mad and lost in a jungle in Ankhenstrom. The really nutty ones end up in Yng-tox, which isn't even anywhere near Chemnos.
