Ixmorian Shard Shield

An Accidental Creation

Created by an Ixmorian blacksmith, Barril Steelsong, accidentally. The Dwarven man originally set out to create a sword for his son's 21th birthday. Barril took a Dragon's Eye Crystal given to the family upon his sons birth, and wanted originally to embed the crystal in the swords crossguard. Whether a result of his forge, the crystal itself, the steel or something else, embedding the crystal in the swords crossguard manifested a swirling barrier of energy to form around the wielders arm.

Magical Variations

There is occassionally variations in the Shard Shield, mainly due to crystal gemstone that surrounds the Loraite eye. The Loraite is the magical component, a very conductive magical mineral, that is known to be explosive in a raw state. The crystal gemstone that surrounds the eye tempers the magical conduction and can alter it. In order of rarity and power they are:
  • Ruby - The Red Dragons Eye - In a Shard Shield it reduces any fireelemental damage blocked by the shield
  • Sapphire - The Blue Dragons Eye - In a Shard Shield it reduces any lightning elemental damage blocked by the shield
  • Diamond - The White Dragons Eye - In a Shard Shield it reduces any ice elemental damage blocked by the shield
  • Emerald - The Green Dragons Eye - In a Shard Shield it reduces any poison elemental damage blocked by the shield
  • Quartz - The Clear Dragons Eye - In a Shard Shield it reduces any force elemental damage blocked by the shield
  • Obsidian - The Black Dragons Eye - In a Shard Shield it reduces any fire and acid elemental damage blocked by the shield

Utility

Most guards and soilders of Clan Blueflame have a Shard Shield as part of their standard kit.    The technology has been occassionally seen in use by the Cult of Salvation, espically after the pressumed death of the Silver, one of their lieutenants, and the Cults developer of magic and enchantmenst.
Access & Availability
Since its invention the Ixmorian Shard Shield has become easier to replicate, the original accident being refined into a set method, and now these shields are avaliable to most provided they have the coin to purchase one.   The original sword that the shield was born from has been removed, instead now being set on a steel bracer, to be worn over the wielders non-sword arm.
