History

The technology dates from 236 PT out of necessity. The Primians started negotiations with the Macrans in 221 PT, all of which were carried out in the swamps of P'Ache Micro. The Primians were fully unprepared for how quickly their materials degraded under the strains of the heat and humidity. Their focus then became the improvement of their metals in order to withstand the strain, rather than admit defeat and use the natural materials available on the planet and used by the locals.

Utility

The crystallinal wash is used to treat all metal products manufactured by Peacekeeper Efficiency within the Peacekeeper Alliance. To call it a wash is a misnomer, but the process is carried out by passing the items through a crystallinal wash, a large chamber which uses elemental force to carry out the procedure. While this initially slowed down the manufacturing process, the time is more than made up for by a reduction in the number of replacement parts which need to be created. As the process prevents the material from being susceptible to water erosion and other forms of decay, treated materials, such as Treated Grafitium can last for millennia, where their untreated counterparts become redundant in far less time.

Technology

The crystallinal wash uses the application of elemental forces to change the molecular structure of the metal. These forces encourage the creation of hydrophobic side chains and pressure the molecules into a smaller space, creating a denser molecular structure. This new dense structure prevents other molecules, even gases or liquids, from passing through. In undergoing this treatment, the item is left 12% - 15% smaller than it was previously, and this too is taken into account at the point of manufacture.
