Cocoa-tail Monkey

These small primates are very well known by the Kukai and specially cherished by travelers like the Tat and the Bat. They are constantly traveling in packs around the southern regions of the tropical rain forest. Sometimes, the cocoa-tail monkeys may accidentally find themselves in a kukai village. This presents no trouble for the kukai or their farms, though some of the Bat make sure to keep an eye on these "unexpected guests". Monkeys in general are considered by the kukai as symbols of creativity and playfulness.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The cocoa-tail monkey is the Pakali-Pakamuut equivalent of spider monkeys. They are a small primate species with long limbs and tail. Females have light brown fur, while males usually have a darker tone. Their tails become more fluffy at the very end, where the fur also turns into a dark tone similar to that of the cocoa fruit. These monkey's fur can sometimes work as camouflage while standing still on big tree branches, they may even position their tail to look like a cocoa fruit.

Ecology and Habitats

The cocoa-tail monkeys live in the tropical rain forest, usually by the southern regions where trees are higher. They constantly travel in groups and rarely stay in a single area unless they find a good source of food. Though they are great climbers and spend most of their time on tree branches, the cocoa-tail monkeys are curious and may be seen hunting or playing on ground level.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Since they get hydrated from eating plenty of tropical fruits, they prefer to keep a distance with some water bodies, specially rivers. Just like other small primate species, the cocoa-tail monkeys eat insects and sometime even dry fruit, which they break using rocks as tools.
